BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION......WHAT A LOAD OF DOGS DANGLY BITS!

AS YOU KNOW STAFFIES, STAFFIE X'S AND OTHER BULL BREEDS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND LOVING DOGS. WE HAVE JUST BEEN UPDATED ON WHAT IS HAPPENING.
AMNESTYS HAVE BEEN SET UP IN KEIGHLEY, MERSEYSIDE AND OTHER AREAS. SIMILAR TO WHEN THE PITBULL WAS BEING BANNED, ANYTHING THAT MAY RESEMBLE ONE (WHICH IS A LOT OF DIFFERENT DOGS, INCLUDING LAB X'S!) MAY BE PUT TO SLEEP.
MERSEYSIDE POLICE ALSO DENIED PERMISSSION FOR RESCUE CENTRES AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO HOLD A PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION ON 13TH JAN AT THEIR HEADQUARTERS SO THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE WORD OUT.
YOU CAN STOP THIS BY SIGNING THE PETITION. YOU ALSO NEED TO BE AWARE THAT THE POLICE ARE TARGETING BULL BREEDS AND BULL BREED CROSSES SO IF AN OFFICER APPROACHES YOU AND YOUR DOG AND IT IS CHIPPED AND NUETERED TELL THEM THAT IT IS CHIPPED AND NUETERED AND YOU WANT IT ADDED TO THE KENNEL CLUB REGISTER. IF IT IS NOT TELL THEM YOU WILL BOOK IT INTO THE VETS NOW TO BE CHIPPED AND NEUTERED AND THEN IT CAN BE PUT ON THE REGISTER. (I DON’T KNOW WHETHER THIS WILL WORK BUT IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH A TRY)

YOU MAY ALSO BE AWARE THAT STAFFY X'S ARE BEING DUMPED ALL OVER THE COUNTRY BECAUSE OF THIS AND WE TOO HAVE HAD A DOG RETURNED BECAUSE THE OWNER (WHO HAS NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE DOG AND LOVES HER VERY MUCH) IS SCARED TO KEEP HER WITH HER TODDLER, ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE LIVED TOGETHER IN HARMONY FOR A YEAR!
THE POLICE HAVE KNOWN THERE IS UNDERGROUND DOG FIGHTING WITH PITBULL TYPES IN CERTAIN AREAS OF LEEDS. WE HAD A PITBULL TYPE BROUGHT IN TO THE RESCUE WHO WAS TOO DAMAGED TO BE REHOMED AND HAD TO BE PUT TO SLEEP. WE KNEW WHEREABOUTS HE WAS FOUND WHICH TIED IN WITH THE FIGHTING, I CONTACTED THE POLICE TO INFORM THEM. THEIR REACTION WAS "AS FAR AS I KNOW A PITBULL IS NOT BANNED AND WE HAVE OTHER HIGHER PRIORITY CASES TO DEAL WITH, UNLESS YOU KNOW WHERE THE DOGS ARE AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME WE WILL NOT HELP". I STATED THAT THESE DOGS WOULD BE DANGEROUS TO CHILDREN IF LET FREE, AND THAT PITBULLS ARE ILLEGAL BUT THEY TOOK NO NOTICE. I WAS ALSO INFORMED ANONYMOUSLY THAT A YOUNG GROUP OF MALES WERE LOOKING FOR THEIR DOG AND WOULD QUOTE "KILL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE IT".
THE POLICE HAVE NOW MIRACULOUSLY BUSTED NUMEROUS DOG FIGHTING DENS IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS.
FOR THE RECORD STAFFIES ARE NOT PITBULLS, THEY ARE VERY RARELY AGGRESSIVE TO HUMAN BEINGS AND ARE MOST DEFINITELY NOT UNPREDICTABLE WITH HUMANS.
WORKING IN RESCUE I HAVE HAD CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH JACK RUSSELS, COLLIES, LABRADORS, GERMAN SHEPHERDS BUT NEVER A STAFFIE SO FAR.
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT THE KENNEL CLUB DO NOT SUPPORT THE AMNESTY. AND AFTER THE ROTTWILER INCIDENTS THERE WAS NO AMNESTY AGAINST ROTTIES BECAUSE IT WAS ACCEPTED THAT IT WAS OWNERS FAULT AS IT SHOULD BE IN THIS CASE.

Recent events that have seen media coverage are now being used by certain organisations to push forward more legislation for dangerous dogs. Say No to B.S.L aims to show that this is not the answer. Talks of amnesties, firstly covering Merseyside, now stated as being National are being stated as an answer in the immediate term. This is a flawed view.
Those with innocent friendly dogs will not hand the dogs in simply to be destroyed and neither will those who enjoy the status they believe their dog gives them.
Any Amnesty may not run in-line with the 1997 amendment, which allows owners whose dogs are seized, to ask the courts to allow their dog to be registered and therefore live. This decision can only be made by a court of law but if your dog is of good nature and you are responsible, is a possibility. If you sign your dog over under an amnesty you will not get this option.
The Kennel club has opposed any amnesty and instead suggested opening the register of exempt dogs. While the finer points of this need discussion it PROVES there is another way. In 1991 a law was rushed in because people where scared. That law failed and at a price. Lets not make the same mistake again.
No breed or type of dog is more likely to attack than any other. Lack of proper training and responsibility by the owner is much more likely to create a dangerous dog.
Unless legislation is followed that deals with the owners who fail to control their dog, regardless of breed, we will never reduce dog attacks. If we, the general public, allow this to continue we may find we are opening up more discussion of adding to the banned breeds. An amended version of the Act is being prepared by the Dog Legislation Advisory Group we would urge caution of making any rash decisions such as amnesties until the DLAG proposal is finalised.

THE POLICE SHOULD ACCEPT RESPONSIBILTY, IT WAS A BANNED DOG THAT CAUSED THE DEATH. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE ABOVE THEY HAVE NOT KEPT ON TOP OF THE LAWS AGAINST PITBULLS AND NOW TO COVER THIS UP THEY WANT T BAN OTHER BREEDS.
